Splash then crash for CS3 launch

I see the whole load up process ticking off on the Encore CS3 splash screen, and then right after I see the message, "Come for the blu-ray, stay for the flash" it disappears and the program never runs. After Encore is gone, the machine is not locked up or otherwise non-responsive.

All other Master Suite CS3 apps launch with no problems.

Running fresh install of XP Pro w/SP2 (antivirus and firewall disabled) on AMD X2 6000+ (dual core) system with 2 GB RAM. Sony DVD burner - no blu-ray device yet installed.

HD setup is a bit disjointed and I am wondering if in any way this could cause problems: boot drive is SATA II 160GB with only the OS, QT Pro 7.1.5, and CS3 installed; scratch disk is external USB 2.0 250GB IDE drive; data storage disk is internal SATA I 500 GB.
