A 23.976 fps video is longer than a PAL 25 fps. Except when you let Encore do it. Why?
I have to make a ProRes HD (HQ) PAL version of my hour and a half NTSC MOV doc to play on a doc channel in South Africa. I know I need to change the frame rate from 23.976 to 25. When I do that in After Effects with Interpret footage, I have a shorter video by a little over 3 minutes. That takes the audio out of sync. I can put it in Audition and with Stretch and sync the two files up (so far that experiment failed and is far too iffy dealing with that long a program).
However... I have made a PAL DVD from that same MOV. The duration didn't change at all, it looks great, and it isn't out of sync. I also exported it from Premiere > MOV to ProRes 1080p 25 (ProResHQ) and it seems to be fine. How is that possible. If AE shortens it by 3+ minutes with the FPS change, am I losing quality with the ProRes Premiere Export? I am baffled.
I am just trying to get the best conversion I can for this channel. Any other ideas would be welcome!
